Global Supply Chain Adjustment under the US Sanctions: Firm-level Evidence

摘要

This study investigates the impact of U.S. sanctions on global supply chains, focusing on how firms linked to sanctioned entities adjust their supplier networks. We find that affected firms sever ties with both sanctioned and unsanctioned suppliers while expanding their supplier bases and increasing geographic diversification. We discover a heterogeneity effect across affected firms: those in sanctioned countries tend to reshore, whereas firms in non-sanctioned countries primarily focus on diversification. High-tech firms show greater sensitivity to sanction risks, and firms with U.S. political connections experience fewer disruptions. Overall, firms weigh political risk against economic efficiency when restructuring their supplier networks.

戚亚烜博士现任香港城市大学经济金融系副教授. 研究兴趣包括企业融资和债务契约、跨国公司财务管理、可持续金融、以及政治和制度经济学。其论文发表在国际顶级期刊比如Journal of Financial Economics, The Accounting Review, Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Public Economics, and Journal of International Business Studies. 现任Journal of Financial Stability 副主编。曾任加拿大康考迪亚大学助理教授、副教授，Manulife Chaired Professor in Financial Planning, 牛津大学商业税务研究所访问学者。美国罗格斯大学金融学博士，中国人民大学金融学硕士，中央财经大学投资学、法律学双学士。
