讲座内容简介
We study how an information designer can manipulate the (asymmetric) information available in an adverse selection problem, without knowing the selection rule.In the latter problem,a principal decides whether to allocate an object to an agentusing the threshold rule of Ben-Porath,Dekel and Lipman (2014),with the threshold unknown to the information designer.A novelty of our analysis is that the information design problem is nonlinear, distinguishing it from existing frameworks in which feasible information exhibits a linear relationship with objective functions. We identify the optimal information from the agent's perspective, which involves pooling the agent's types over certain intervals into coarse signals.Unlike previous findings where pooling occurs exclusively at the top of the type distribution, our results show that the relevant intervals may be at the top,in the middle,or even empty, depending on how the principal's threshold is distributed. Our results apply, for example, when colleges manipulate (twist) students’performance records (bands) to influence how employers evaluate students, before knowing the recruitment threshold.
